Virginia Woolf criticizes the cultural discrimination to which women were subject to which it was granted the right to education in England and “A Room of One’s Own” argues that men argue the inferiority of women as insecure and need to dominate. This is the first feminist manifesto of the first 900. The room is the literary space in which to write by placing the issue of diversity of both sexes.
Someone once said of her that gave birth to children but books.
She was born in London in 1882.
She wrote a very important novels and essay:
    •MRS Dalloway (1925)
    •Orlando (1928)
    •A room of one’s own (1929)
MRS Dalloway tells the day of Mrs. Dalloway and other characters who, in turn, are found both in the background on the surface of the story. Clarissa Dalloway is a rich lady of fifty who organizes a party at home for the evening.
In the first part of the book are walking the streets of London, preoccupied by memories of his old life at Bourton, when, in the company of his aunt and many friends, spent his days in perfect harmony.
Woolf uses the technique of interior monologue. We can distinguish between two different types of interior monologue:
•DIRECT: refers to the direct presentation of a character’s stream of consciousness without the guiding presence of an author or narrator.
•INDIRECT: refers to the indirect presentation of a character’s thoughts filtered through the voice of an anonymous third person narrator. This type of monologue is generally easier to read as it often includes more descriptive passages or explanations and has more conventional punctuation and use of grammar.

Byron in his life and in his works idealizes a particoular character:byron hero.He is a passionate.moody, restless and misterious man who has a great secrets in his past. Moreover he is characterized by a proud individualism and he rejects the conventional moral rules of the society. He is a noble birth but rught in his manners, his look is hard but handsome,he has a great passion for the beauty and nature but he refuses the excesses and exitements.Women don’t rexist him but he don’t accept their love and either men don’t admire him.
The main character descendes from Milton’s Satana, moreover he sometimes echoes the sheakespearegreat tragic heroes, but while at the end the shakespeare’s hero is punished for his evils, byron hero is a victim.because his actions are beyond his control.Concludin it may said that the poet sees himself in this figure, with his rebellions.his pasions and his hoped.

The prices for fuel have reached heights that even exceed all pessimistic prognoses. Car driving has become unattainable for a major percentage of the population. Therefore, it’s not surprising that alternative technologies are slowly starting to achieve acceptance. What used to be a joke for most people ten years ago is now in trend, offering means for hope. This is especially true for solar automobiles in the field of transportation. Solar energy technology has made enormous progress in the past two decades. The energy efficiency gained here has advanced into a field that can definitely be compared to combustion engine technology. And the production methods in specific have also been improved, to make this new technology affordable for a large amount of customers. However, one thing has not really changed in terms of conventional automobile production, and that is the enormously high efforts that must be invested in logistics. Cleverly devised, fast and efficient transport routes are necessary to be able to keep the prices steady

Great grandmother irene sinclair poses in billboards that ask if she is “wrinkled or wonderful” in an advert Dove says is part of its mission to “widen the definition of beauty”.

Other women in the campaign include grey-haired Merlin Glozier, 45, whose poster ask if she is grey or gorgeous, and Leah Seehan,22, whose ad considers if her freckled face is flawed o flawless. The campaign follow the famous £4m “real women” campaign for Dove firming cream, which featured women with “real curves” instead of the conventional stick-thin models.

Commentators have noted that the campaign doesn’it provide any information on the product itself. It simply shows images of unconventionally attractive women and gives the adddress of a website that hosts a discussion of society’s ideas of female beauty. “The advertising endeavours to spark a debate by challenging people’s perceptions about what constitutes beauty,” said Lever Faberge, the company that owns the beauty brand.

The company also released a global study of more than 3000 women wxploring women’s relationship with beauty and self-image. It has also founded a Dove “self-esteem fund” to make charitable donations to organistations that work to ppromote the self-esteem of woomen.

E’ un testo importantissimo che mi serve per la mia tesina sulla guerra del Vietnam!!!! P.S. Dall’inglese all’italiano!

Napalm is the name given to any of a number of flammable liquids used in warfare, often jellied gasoline. Napalm is actually the thickener in such liquids, which when mixed with gasoline makes a sticky incendiary gel. Developed by the U.S. in World War II by a team of Harvard chemists led by Louis Fieser, its name is a portmanteau of the names of its original ingredients, coprecipitated aluminium salts of naphthenic and palmitic acids. These were added to the flammable substance to cause it to gel.[1]
One of the major problems of early incendiary fluids was that they splashed and drained too easily. The U.S. found that a gasoline gel increased both the range and effectiveness of flamethrowers, but was difficult to manufacture because it used natural rubber, which was in high demand for other purposes (e.g. truck tires) and was expensive. Napalm provided a far cheaper alternative, solving the issues involved with rubber-based incendiaries.[1]
Modern napalm is composed primarily of benzene and polystyrene, and is known as napalm-B.[1]
Napalm 877 was used in flamethrowers and bombs by the U.S. and Allied forces, to increase effectiveness of flammable liquids. The substance is formulated to burn at a specific rate and adhere to materials. Napalm is mixed with gasoline in various proportions to achieve this.
    Composition
Napalm bombs explode after being dropped from a Republic of Korea Air Force F-4E Phantom II aircraft during a live-fire exercise.
Napalm is usually a mixture of gasoline with suitable thickening agents. The earliest thickeners were soaps, aluminium or magnesium palmitates and stearates. There have been unconfirmed reports of using blood from livestock as a field-expedient thickening agent combined with gasoline to make napalm, as was mentioned in the mystery novel called ‘Gorky Park.’ Depending on the amount of added thickener, the resulting viscosity may range between syrupy liquid and thick rubbery gel. The content of long hydrocarbon chains makes the material highly hydrophobic (resistant to wetting with water), making it more difficult to extinguish. Thickened fuel also rebounds better from surfaces, making it more useful for operations in urban terrain.
There are two types of napalm: oil-based with aluminium soap thickener, and oil-based with polymeric thickener (“napalm-B”).
The United States military uses three kinds of thickeners: M1, M2, and M4.
The M1 Thickener (MIL-T-589A), chemically a mixture of 25% wt. aluminium naphthenate, 25% aluminium oleate, and 50% aluminium laurate, (or, according to other sources, aluminium stearate soap) is a highly hygroscopic coarse tan-colored powder. As the water content impairs the quality of napalm, thickener from partially used open containers should not be used later. It is not maintained in the US Army inventory any more as it was used concurrently with M4. MIL-T-589A was cancelled 30 October 1987.
The M2 Thickener (MIL-T-0903025B) is a whitish powder similar to M1, with added devolatilized silica and anticaking agent.
The M4 flame fuel thickening compound (MIL-T-50009A), hydroxyl aluminium bis(2-ethylhexanoate) with anti-caking agent, is a fine white powder. It is less hygroscopic than M1 and opened containers can be resealed and used within one day. About half the amount of M4 is needed for the same effect as of M1. MIL-T-50009A was in use from 22 May 1959 and was listed INACTIVE 5 June 1996 for new design.
A later variant, napalm-B, also called “super napalm”, is a mixture of low-octane gasoline with benzene and polystyrene. It was used in the Vietnam War. Unlike conventional napalm, which burns for only 15–30 seconds, napalm B burns for up to 10 minutes with fewer fireballs, sticks better to surfaces, and offers improved destruction effects. It is not as easy to ignite, [13] which reduces the number of accidents caused by soldiers smoking. When it burns, it develops a characteristic smell.
Starting in the early 1990s, various websites including The Anarchist Cookbook advertised recipes for homemade napalm. These recipes were predominantly equal parts gasoline and styrofoam. This mixture closely resembles that of napalm-B, but lacks a percentage of benzene.
Napalm reaches burning temperatures of approximately 1,200 °C (2,200 °F). Other additives can be added, eg. powdered aluminium or magnesium, or white phosphorus.
In the early 1950s, Norway developed its own napalm, based on fatty acids in whale oil. The reason for this development was that the American-produced thickening agent performed rather poorly in the cold Norwegian climate. The product was known as Northick II.[14]
Some weapons utilize a pyrophoric variant, known as *** (thickened pyrophoric agent). Chemically it is a triethylaluminium thickened with polyisobutylene.

Alice in Wonderland tells the story of a girl who suddenly finds herself in a fantasy world and her interactions with the bizarre characters who populate this strange land.At the beginning of the story Alice is reluctant to submit her to the lesson of history that is the conventional view of the world, the world of ‘adults’.She wants another point of view, a ‘wonderland’ where everything is reversed, where the high and low, small and large are inverted . What makes this unique place, however, is that there are no common rules that characterize the so-called normal world
To enter the door of this additional dimension the character becomes very small, then huge, then small again. ‘Getting up’ means become adults. But what is the right size?
Pincopanco and Pancopinco perhaps represent this duality, this conundrum of opposites equal and different at the same time. They are the first meeting of Alice in his inner journey and tell her the great danger for those who were too naive, as small oysters and deceived by Walrus and the Carpenter. Each character has a story to tell, and each of these stories has its own lesson.Although it could be strange Wonderland is really a metaphor of the real world. The ability of the author ‘and the subtle irony that pervades the story are perceived through the whole story. The characters are real people with real life events, or who are in fact, the strangeness of Wonderland depict some vices in our world that are less unrealistic than we might think. But Wonderland is represented as an extraordinary imagination,it is an exotic world in which Alice finds herself chasing a white rabbit in its burrow. Alice’s motif for entering and intersecting Wonderland is simply curiosity: she sees a White Rabbit and decides to follow him because he has a watch and is wearing a waistcoat.
The White Rabbit with his sense of urgency is the call that urges Alice to research. But Alice becomes ‘big’ again, too big for the house of the rabbit: a ‘monster’. The fun characters who try to pull her off with their absurd exaggerations are contrary to the wisdom of Alice, polite and thoughtful child. Her behavior recalls the behavior of her parents, as well as Victorian England. Only becoming smaller once again and starting to ‘dream’ she can continue her journey through flowers that sing and play in orchestras and butterflies with wings shaped like a toast: the metaphor of unconscious. So the world of childhood,is not harmonious because Alice is judged and rejected. In fact the flowers are transfigured copies of old English gossips. Alice doesn’t know who she is: is she big? Is she small? Now there is essential question of the mysterious Brucaliffo: “Who are you?”. The caterpillar, changing into Butterfly, offers a solution: one side of a fungus increases stature the other decreases it so Alice finds the balanced and intermediate size. And then she meets the Cheshire Cat, visible and invisible, and asks him the road to the White Rabbit. He prepares the meeting with the Mad Hatter and the Hare Leap. This one alludes to a year (leap year) that there is and there isn’t, which is a convention.Have tea at five in the afternoon is a parody of social conventions.Birthdays here are ‘non-birthday’: we are in no-time or, rather, the caricature of the conventions, sites comuni, the time (the clock of the rabbit) makes no sense.
Alice is back to reflect on herself and seek guidance in a forest of animals that are mirrors, trumpets, spades that call for a deeper meaning. Alice is in a labyrinth, she is lost in the labyrinths of the unconscious and regrets not having followed the ‘good advice’ and wants to go home. But the Cat leads the encounter with the Queen. The maze is flowery now , populated with playing cards as subjects submissive and afraid of a powerful Queen of Hearts, nasty and cruel, who judges cutting heads and reducing all to cards of his game. Probably this meeting with the Queen is the destination of Alice trip. Lewis Carroll wrote in the Victorian era, perhaps the Queen of Hearts could be the satirical caricature of Queen Victoria.
The stage of the judicial process of Alice repeats all the nonsense encountered on the journey,so all the teachings received. Alice is big, then small, but this time had the courage to face the Queen, to tell the truth. And then she wake up returning to normal life with iher comforting habits. But now she is different. Now it’s finally ‘grown up’ …

The most obvious theme that can be found in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is the theme of growing up.
Apparently, adults need rules to live by. But most people adhere to those rules blindly now, without asking themselves ‘why’. This leads to the incomprehensible, and sometimes arbitrary behavior that Alice experiences in Wonderland.

When entering Wonderland, Alice encounters a way of living and reasonin

The major components of the loom are the warp beam, heddles, harnesses, shuttle, reed and takeup roll. In the loom, yarn processing includes shedding, picking, battening and taking-up operations.

    * Shedding. Shedding is the raising of the warp yarns to form a shed through which the filling yarn, carried by the shuttle, can be inserted. The shed is the vertical space between the raised and unraised warp yarns. On the modern loom, simple and intricate shedding operations are performed automatically by the heddle or heald frame, also known as a harness. This is a rectangular frame to which a series of wires, called heddles or healds, are attached. The yarns are passed through the eye holes of the heddles, which hang vertically from the harnesses. The weave pattern determines which harness controls which warp yarns, and the number of harnesses used depends on the complexity of the weave. Two common methods of controlling the heddles are dobbies and a Jacquard Head.

    * Picking. As the harnesses raise the heddles or healds, which raise the warp yarns, the shed is created. The filling yarn in inserted through the shed by a small carrier device called a shuttle. The shuttle is normally pointed at each end to allow passage through the shed. In a traditional shuttle loom, the filling yarn is wound onto a quill, which in turn is mounted in the shuttle. The filling yarn emerges through a hole in the shuttle as it moves across the loom. A single crossing of the shuttle from one side of the loom to the other is known as a pick. As the shuttle moves back and forth across the shed, it weaves an edge, or selvage, on each side of the fabric to prevent the fabric from raveling.

    * Battening. As the shuttle moves across the loom laying down the fill yarn, it also passes through openings in another frame called a reed (which resembles a comb). With each picking operation, the reed presses or battens each filling yarn against the portion of the fabric that has already been formed. The point where the fabric is formed is called the fell. Conventional shuttle looms can operate at speeds of about 150 to 160 picks per minute.[1]

With each weaving operation, the newly constructed fabric must be wound on a cloth beam. This process is called taking up. At the same time, the warp yarns must be let off or released from the warp beams. To become fully automatic, a loom needs a filling stop motion which will brake the loom, if the weft thread breaks. [2]

For all this to happen, the yarn has to be prepared. The weft, or filling must be wound tightly on the correct size pirns, quills or bobbins. Weaving happens at great speed so the yarn must be at the correct tension when it leaves the shuttle. The warp passes through the heddles which stretch it at each pick, and through the reeds which are abrasive. The warp is thus sized, that is coated with a mixture that can include china clay and flour, to give it extra strength and to act as a lubricant. It is dressed or wetted while passing through the loom. The warp, hundreds of ends of yarn rolled in parallel, comes on a wooden beam. Before weaving can commence each end must be passed through the heddles and reeds: a process known as looming.[3]

An automatic loom requires 0.125hp to 0.5hp to operate.

    Il pezzo è questo:

THE HISTIRICAL BACKGROUND TO THE BOOK.
In the late 1930s news reached the West of Stalin’s Purge Trials which led to the death of three million people and sent many others to forced labour camps. In 1939 Stalin signed a non-aggression pact with Hitler, which enabled the Germans to take over Poland and Czechoslovakia. Orwell’s indignant reaction to these events caused him to write Animal Farm.
He expressed his dissilusionment with Stalinism and totalitarianism in general in the form of an animal fable, an anti-utopia much influenced bySwift’s Gulliver’s Travels, especially in the comparsion between men and animals.
    PLOT
The book is a short narrative describing a gruop of oppressed animals on a farm who are capable of speech and reason inspired by the teachings of an old board, overcome their cruel master and set up a revulutionary government. The pigs lead and supervise the enterprise under Napoleon’s leadership. At first the animal’s life is guided by Seven Commandments based on equality. These are gradually altered by pigs who become increasingly dictatorial and arrogate to themselves the privileges previously exercised by humans. At the end all the Seven Commandments are abandoned and only one remains: “all animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others”.
The parallels between the plot of the book and the history of the OSSR between 1917 and 1943 are clear: each animals symbolizes a precise figure or representative type. Orwell had a wider aim in mind: a satire on dictatorship in general as the fact he named the ruling pig <> clearly shows.
    STYLE
It is significant he chose to do this in the form of animal fable rather than a conventional novel or political treatise. The best-fable form allowed Orwell to convey a complex message in simple terms. Also the way in which animal characteristics are portrayed is remarkable; besides being a symbol, each animal possesses the traits of its species and Orwell has the ability to view it as if from the inside of its mind and thoughts. The tone of the book blends humour and sarcasm with horrifying scenes and painful atmosphere.
    MAIN THEME
The main theme all revolutions fail to achieve the expectations of their promoters, the ideals that inspired them are diluted by the ruling elite which concentrates power into its own hands. Tyranny is by evil, regardless of its political nature. The book is therefore one of those parables which deal with permanent truths.

in the second part of the poem, juliet is comparated at the sun and this is part of stilnovistic tradition, full of conventional words of love.
when juliet asks romeo that he doffs his name, romeo answers “i take thee at thy word”, with this verse he shows us and juliet that he doesn’t understand because for juliet the words are separated that means. in other verse juliet shows us how she separates the name from the things, this is when she says “what’s in a name”.

Many of the historical changes that characterized the Victorian period motivated discussion and argument about the nature and role of woman — what the Victorians called “The Woman Question.” The extension of the franchise by the Reform Bills of 1832 and 1867 stimulated discussion of women’s political rights. Although women in England did not get the vote until 1918, petitions to Parliament advocating women’s suffrage were introduced as early as the 1840s. Equally important was the agitation to allow married women to own and handle their own property, which culminated in the passing of the Married Women’s Property Acts. The Industrial Revolution resulted in changes for women as well. The explosive growth of the textile industries brought hundreds of thousands of lower-class women into factory jobs with grueling working conditions. The new kinds of labor and poverty that arose with the Industrial Revolution presented a challenge to traditional ideas of woman’s place. Middle-class voices also challenged conventional ideas about women: in Cassandra; Florence Nightingale, who later became famous for organizing a contingent of nurses to take care of sick and wounded oldies during the Crimean War, writes passionately of the costs for women of having no outlet for their heroic aspirations. Popular representations of Florence Nightingale, “The Lady with the Lamp,” reflect the paradox of her achievement. While her organization of nurses was an important advance in hospital treatment, the image of her tending the wounded seems to reflect a traditional view of woman’s mission. Even Queen Victoria herself represents a similar paradox. Though she was queen of the British Empire, paintings and photographs of her, such as Winterhalter’s The Royal Family in 1846, represent her identity in conventional feminine postures and relationships. Texts in this topic address both the hardships faced by women forced into new kinds of labor and the competing visions of those who exalted domestic life and those who supported women’s efforts to move beyond the home. All of these texts show how complex the debate was on what the Victorians called “The Woman Question.”

Such proces occours by forcing. hydrogen gas into oil at high pressure. Oils have been hydrogenated for many decades to prolong their lives and to avoid themturning rancid quickly. When hydrogenated, the chemical structure of the oil is changed thus causing health effects.
Both animal and vegetable fats can be hydrogenated.
In general, the more solid the oil, the more hydrogenated it is.
One common example of hydrogenated fat is margarine. In the 1990 s, it was realized that phose products might have deleterious health effects, a tragic irony since they were originally produced and promoted as being healthier than conventional oils.

A new method to select colour channels in colour pattern recognition systems ìs presented to improve the chromatic discrimination capabihliy. Instead of using the conventional RGB decomposition, we propose to use other narrow-band channels that can show more varations of the objects of a scene. This method exploits the spectral Information of the objects and ìs useful in discriminating objects with similar colour. Simulated and expenmental optical correlation results, for scenes with objects of similar colours, are presented and discussed . Model and natural objects are considered and a variety of ranges are studied.

The introduction of colour into pattern recognition has contributed new degrees of freedom to the discrimination capability of recognition systems since ìt allows object identification not only by shape but also by colour distribution. Various methods based on trichromatic decomposition, matched filtenng, optical correlation and decision rules have been pro-posed to perform colour pattern recognition. The most usual way to introduce the colour ìnfor-mation of an image into the recognition process ìs through a trichromatic decomposition in the red, green and blue (RGB) channels. The colour compo-nents can be obtained by encoding gratings by ìlluminating the colour scene successively by monochromatic lights in the RGB visible regions, and from the common R, G, B components provided by a colour CCD camera. In a recent paper Millàn et al. proposed a linear transformation of the RGB components provided by a camera based on colour vision models. With this transformation the number of channels needed for the recognition of colour objects can be reduced to two. Colour recognition methods to date usually consider objects of very different colours (red, blue, green, yellow, etc), the chromatic discrimination capability of pattern recognition systems being still very far from human capabilities. As far as we know, the ways to improve the chromatic discrimination capability of pattern recognition systems have not been investigated, particularly ìf we compare with the variety of methods and filters developed to increase the discrimination capability based on shape variations. In this paper, we aim to improve colour discrimination capability in optical pattern recognition by making the colour channels scheme more flexible and adapting the multichannel decomposition to the colour discrimination requirements of the problem. We focuse our attention on the pattern recognition problems which require an identification of a shape and a superior colour discrimination capability because the objects of the scene belong to the sanie range of hue. Such is the case, for example, when identifying fruit of different varieties, or at different stages of ripening. Instead of the conventional RGB channels, we propose a selection of n narrow-band transmission channels centred on the wavelengths where the spectral reflectances of the objects show the greatest percentage differences. Previous knowledge of the spectral reflectances of the objects is advisable in order to select the correct channels. When the spectral reflectances are not available, the channel selection must be done on the basis of a set of training colours similar to the colours of the scene.
Non-negative valued components in each channel are obtained by means of successive narrow-band transmission filters placed against the lens of a black-and-white camera used for the image acquisi-tion of the scene illuminated by a wide-band light. Once the chromatic components of the scene have been obtained by means of this adaptive decomposition, we follow a conventional recognition process based on matched filtering, multichannel optical cor-relation and decision rules. The motivation to improve colour discrimination capability in optical pattern recognition, the idea of an adaptive multichannel decomposition and the method for the adaptive channel selection constitute the main novelty of this work. Section 2 describes the proposed method of adaptive multichannel decomposition in more detail. Then we study the response of a set of matched filters named Fractional Power Filters (FPF) when they are used to analyse a scene with objects of equal shape but different colour. We establish a decision rule based on a doublé threshold to be applied to the correlation results. The doublé threshold is particu-larly useful when the target is not the most energetic object in every channel. Section 3 shows simulated and experimental correlation results. Finally, Section 4 contains the conclusions of this work.

The WHO publication “International Standards for Drinking Water” sets out very clearly the objectives, the test methods and the frequency of sampling required, regarding the bacteriological, virological, biological, radiological, physical and chemical aspects of drinking water. This is to ensure that water which is described as potable should have an assured level of safety from possible hazards. From the microbilogcal point of view, the standards relating to the detection of faecal pollution are the most important. The coliform group of organisms occur in faeces and also survive well and grow in many environments outside the animal or human body. The usual practice is therefore to assume that if coliform organisms are found in water supplies they are of faecal origin. The presence of coliforms indicates an undesirable source of contamination. Faeces contain hundreds of millions of coliform bacteria per gram – of whic E.Coli is an important meber. Bacterial pathogens may also be present but, in comparison, in relatively low numbers. Water infected with faeces becomes infected with E. coli organisms. Thus, when the water is examined for possible faecal pollution it is actually examined for the presence of E.coli. The presence of E.coli in water samples indicates recent faecal pullution because this organism does not survive long in the alien aqueous environment. Sometimes other indicator bacteria – faecal streptococci and spore forming organisms – are looked for in water samples. Faeces also contain pathogenic viruses. So, where water is contaminated by sewage it also contains pathogenic viruses. Viruses are not easily removed from water by conventional water tratment and, to a certain extent, some resist chlorination. Colony counts of the many organisms thic can grow at 37 and 20°C provide useful information on the quality of both raw and treated water. Microorganisms are not necessarily removed by the filtration and coagulation stages in the treatment of water and positive steps are to be taken to remove them. Chlorination of water is a very effective method of reducin its microbial content. The effectiveness of chlorination depends on the concentration used, the contact time, the pH, the temperature, the amount of organic matter and the numer of microorganisms. If water is contaminated with phenols and tars, chlorination produces chlorophenols which give a very disagreeable taste to the water and can cause tainting of food products. Excess chlorine is removed from the water by contact whit sulphur dioxide or by passage through activated carbon, leaving sterilized water. Ozone is considered to habe superior bactericidal action to chlorine ad creates no taste problems. Another way of removing organisms is to pass the organisms through filters fine enough to retain them. This is only effective when the levels of suspended material are very low. Ultra-violet light can be an effective microbicide. Since UV has very little penetrating power, it is most effective either for surface sterilization of objects or for treating clear liquids

Ballads have been sung throughout the English-speaking world in different times and spaces and they can vary both in the same narrative outline.
Historically, ballads were primarily intended for singing at the communal ring-dance and refrains represented the chorus. It is not certain whether the autorship of the ballads may be attributed to individual poets or to the community.
The narrative technique of ballads has been compared to that montage in film. It tells a dramatic story not as a continuos sequence of events, but as a series of rapid flashes.
Popular ballads are a mixture of dialogue and narration;they are impersonal, since ballad narrators do not speak in the first person (unless speaking as a character in the story), and they often do not comment on their reactions to the emotional content of the story.
Ballads tended to be characterizes by repetitive textual structures linked to melody and metre. The traditional ballad stanza consisted of four lines, usually rhyming ABCB or in couplets with an alternating refrain. A refrainis a repeated section that divides segments of the story. Several ballads alsoemployed incremental repetition,in which a phrase recurs with minor differences as the story progresses. A classic example of incremental repetition can be seen in the first two lines of each stanza in Lord Randal.
Older traditional ballads were composed for non-specialist audiences. Therefore their language was simple. They employed a conventional vocabulary of so-called commonplaces, including descriptive combinations like “milk-white steed”,formulaic phrases such as “mother, mother, make my bed” which recur again and again. These linguistic patterns are matched by conventional situations, settings, characters, time of the day and seasons of the year.
The ballad universe is peopled with speaking animals and birds, faires, witches and ghost who return from the grave.
There is no clear line betwen such creatures and ordinary mortals.
Ballads can be classified according to the following themes:
    -ballads of magic,about fairies,ghosts,witchcraft and transformation,often of great immaginative power;
    -border ballads,about the rivalry between the English and the Scottish people;
    -ballads of love and domestic tragedy;
-ballads of outlaws, with the cycle of Robin Hood.

    The hydroelectric power station

The original source of energy is the Sun, which makes the WIND BLOW and the rain fall thus feeding seas and rivers. A large river which falls down a steep slope is suitable for generating hydroelectric power. When a river is DRAMMED , the valley is FLOODED , thus creating a large reservoir (lake) of water. Even the power of the tides can be HARNESSED to produce electricity. Similar to the more conventional hydroelectric DAMS, the tidal process utilizes the natural motion of the tides to fill RESERVOIRS , which are then slowly discharged through electricity-producing turbines . Hydroelectricity comes from the DAMMING of rivers by utilizing the potential energy STORES in water. As the water stores behind a dam is released at high pressure, its kinetic energy is channelled down towards turbine BALDES which drive the generator to produce electricity.

    What is ‘’organic farming’’?
The most common of ‘’organic farming’’ is farming withouth chemicals’’.This definition is not stricly true as it doesn’t give the whole pictures.
As a matter of fact, all living or dead things are made up of chemical compounds. Therefore organic farming does use chemicals, though naturally derived,in plant protection, fertilizing and livestock husbandry. However,it is a system which tries to avoid the routine use of chemicals and to exploit natural renewable resources.
The principles of organic farming are expressed in the following document of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement(IFOAM):
    -to produce food of high nutritional quality in sufficient quantity;
-to work with natural systems rather than seeking to dominate them:
    -to encourage and enhance biological cycles within the farming system,involving microorganisms,soil flora and fauna,plants and animals;
    -to maintain and increase the long-term fertility of soils;
    -to use,as far as possible,renewable resources in locally organized agricultural systems;
    -to work as much as possible within a closed system with regard to organic matter and nutrient elements;
    -to give all livestock conditions of life that allow them to perform all aspects of their innate behaviour;
    -to avoid all forms of pollution that may result from agricultural techniques;
    -to maintain the genetic diversity of the agricultural system and its surroundings,including the protection of plant and wildilife habitats;
    - to allow agricultural producers an adequate return and satisfaction from their work including a safe working environment;
-to consider the wider social and ecological impact of the farming system.
These principles are the bais for day-to-day farming practices for organic farmers all over the world.
The United States Department of Agriculture has given the following definitions of organic farming:
Organic farming is a production system which avoids or largely excludes the use of synthetically compounded fertilisers, pesticides, growth regulators and livestock feed additives. To the maximum extent feasible, animal manures, legumes, green manures,off-farm organic wastes, and aspects of biological pest control to maintain soil productivity and tilth,to supply plant nutrients and to control insects, weeds and other pests.
From the above definitions it is evident that organic farming has the aim of protecting the fertility of the soil, relying on crop rotations, and organic manures, controlling weeds, diseases and pets, using natural predators and disease resistant varieties;recycling organic material including crop residues and livestock wastes;producing nutrirional, healthy and high quality food.
Many farmers are converting from conventional to organic farming s they begin to be aware of the fragility of the earth’s environment, the pollution from pesticides and fertilizers, and the toxic residues in food.

The trip that I have decided to treat in English is a trip to the discovery of the emotions of the protagonists of the novels of the twentieth century. It is the trip in the stream of consciousness.
It consists in the free representation of the thoughts of a person as they appears in the mind, before being logically reorganized in sentences.
The stream of consciousness is narrative technique implemented through the interior monologue in psychological novels, or in those novels where in the foreground the individual emerges, with its inner conflicts, emotions and feelings, passions and sensations.
This kind is born after the publications of Sigmund Freud on the psychoanalysis, that proposes the first serious studies on the unconscious. The first example in the literature is the work of Dorothy Richardson and May Sinclair, but its notoriety is owed to the writer James Joyce, that in 1906 public Dubliners, a collection of stories (nelle quali si fondono) that blend reality and mind, consciousness and the unconscious.
This same poetic technique is used in the most famous work of Joyce, the Ulysses: is in effect eliminated all barriers between the real perception of things and the mental elaboration, the technique is taken to extremes in one of his last works, Finnegans Wake , in which the story takes place entirely within a dream of the protagonist, are abolished normal rules of grammar and spelling, punctuation disappears, the words blend into each other trying to play the confused dream language.
Other writers who have used this technique are Virginia Woolf, TS Eliot and William Fau.
And as for our literature to use this technique was Italo Svevo.
Through this narrative technique the reader finds herself traveling in the sea of thoughts of the protagonist’s mind, being shipwrecked in his illogical thinking.
This technique is one that we Italians, along with French and other peoples, we call inner monologue. In England, it consists of two components: interior monologue and stream of consciousness.
The interior monologue doesn’t use logical transitions, formal syntax and conventional punctuation, so as to reflect the apparently chaotic sequence of thoughts. there are two main types of interior monologue: direct interior monologue, where narration shifts abruptly from thought to thought, without introduction from the narrator; indirect interior monologue, introduced by such clauses as “he thought” and “he decided”, and provides more rational links for the association of ideas and a more correct syntax.

    Queen Victoria

Queen Victoria, the daughter of Edward, duke of Kent, became queen of Britain and Empress of India in 1837 following the death of her uncle William IV. She married the German Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg, but he died at the age of forty-two in 1861 much to Victoria’s sorrow. Her long reign lasted sixty-four years and was marked by important political and social events and by a strict conventional morality both within family and society. The Victorian Age was also the age of “great British Imperialism”. All the following countries became part of colonial British Empire: India, Ceylon, The Malay States, Singapore, Hong Kong, Gibraltar, Malta, Cyprus, New Zeland, Canada, Australia and part of Africa. The Queen supported Disreali`s foreign policy to extend British colonial dominions. There was another reason to create new colonies: the rapidly increasing population of Britain. As a result, settlements in Canada, Australia and New Zelanda from the 1840 onwards were encouraged. By the end of the nineteenth century Britain controlled the oceans and many countries around the world. At the end of Victotia’s long reign Britain was the richest country in the world : it controlled one quarter of the world’s trade and it ruled an enormus empire.
However soon after World War II one by one most colonies started claiming independence : Canada, Australia and New Zealand were the first to leave the Empire becoming self governing nations. In 1947 India too became independent and the Brithish King was forced to renounce his title of Emperor of India.

Last year banks issued $180 billion of new mortgages insured by the FHA, which means they carry a 100% taxpayer guarantee. Many of these have the same characteristics as subprime loans: low downpayment requirements, high-risk borrowers, and in many cases shady mortgage originators. FHA now insures nearly one of every three new mortgages, up from 2% in 2006.

The financial results so far are not as dire as those created by the subprime frenzy of 2004-2007, but taxpayer losses are mounting on its $562 billion portfolio. According to Mortgage Bankers Association data, more than one in eight FHA loans is now delinquent — nearly triple the rate on conventional, nonsubprime loan portfolios. Another 7.5% of recent FHA loans are in “serious delinquency,” which means at least three months overdue.

The FHA is almost certainly going to need a taxpayer bailout in the months ahead. The only debate is how much it will cost. By law FHA must carry a 2% reserve (or a 50 to 1 leverage rate), and it is now 3% and falling. Some experts see bailout costs from $50 billion to $100 billion or more, depending on how long the recession lasts.

at the “Ospedale SS Trinità”, Cagliari (A.S.L. 8) between
2007 and 2008. Fifty-two control samples were from
volunteers randomly chosen from patients at the Department
of Dental Disease Prevention (University of Cagliari). These
controls reported no history of cancer or showed no sign of
mucosal lesions or relevant systemic disease. At the time of
examination, all participants were informed about the
research and its purpose and gave their informed consent.
An incisional biopsy of the oral squamous cell carcinoma
(OSCC) lesion was performed on each patient. All biopsies
were divided into two parts: one part was used for
histopathological analysis and the other was frozen at -80°C
until a molecular assay could be performed. Each fresh
specimen sample was analyzed and histopathologically
classified as regards to OSCC. Information on patient
gender, age, smoking and alcohol history was collected from
direct patient interviews and medical records. Tumor grade
and staging system (TNM) were obtained from clinical
notes, histopathology and radiology reports. Staging was
carried out according to the Fifth Edition of the International
    Cancer Union guidelines [22].
    Extraction, Amplification and Sequencing
About 25 mg of tissue was finely crushed and the DNA
was extracted with a QIAamp® DNA Mini Kit (Qiagen)
according to the manufacturer’s instructions, quantified by
spectrophotometry and frozen at -80°C until use. The
molecular method for the detection of HPV-DNA was
Seminested PCR. In the first reaction the degenerate primers
    MY09 (5’-CGT CC(AC) AA(AG) GGA (AT)AC TGA TC-

    template (100 ng), 2.5 ul of a 10X PCR buffer (200 mM
    Tris-HCl, 500 mM KCl, pH 8.4), 1.5 mM magnesium

DNA Polymerase and 4 ul of the Rnasi Dnasi-free template.
All reagents were purchased from Invitrogen (Milan, Italy)
with the exception of the primers. The mixture was
incubated for 2 minutes at 95°C and subjected to 20 cycles

    Sustainable Agricolture
Organic farming is not the only alternative to conventional systems.A growing movement has emerged during the past two decades which aims to promote practices that contribute to solve many environmental and social concerns.
Low-input sustainable agriculture (LISA),consisting of reduced use,but not elimination of chemical products, with the development of integrated farming systems, has received considerable attention from researchers, who see it as a compromise between conventional and organic farming.
The Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development(SARD) integrates three main goals:
    1.to improve agricultural production and systems;
2.to fulfil farmers’ needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
The potential of organic farming in its objectives for integrated farming consist in:
-Shifting the emphasis from greater production to cost reduction and quality improvement of both products and production methods by substituting expensive and potentially harmful inputs, especially fertilizers and pesticides, with agricultural and ecological knowledge, labour and non-chemical husbandry techniques.
-Encouragement and conservation of flora and fauna in and around the fields,to stabilize the agro-ecosystem as a major preventive measure against the outbreak of pests, weeds and diseases.
.-Some forms of biological or organic farming may be considered as the most radical approach of these integrated objectives.

In the long term it may also appear the most desirable approach, provided the necessary technical and economic improvements can be made.
It is,however, extremely difficult to combine different approaches to sustainable agriculture that are able to meet the requirements of consumers and environmentalists and, above all, farmers’ needs for profits.

The sonnet is based a tradition of expressly anti-Petrarchan sonnets, like the ones by the Italian Francesco Berni. But Shakespeare’s defense of black as beautiful also implies an attack on “false blond”: both in the sonnets and the plays he react against the vogue of exaggerate make-up, of dying one’s hair. If being fair (in the sense of blond) means being false, then black natural beauty is welcome. Shakespeare’s sonnet tackles a problem which is more than just a matter of colour. It is an attack against falsity in general: against beautiful but insincere declarations of love as well as against highly conventional images in poetry.

The following report investigates on the herbal remedies considers whether the therapy is effective and safe. The report gathered information from the following sources: 4500 of our members were sent questionnaires asking them about their experience of using a therapy .we received 2815 completed service. Leading medical journals were consulted. Overview Herbal medicines, also called botanical medicine or phytomedicine, refers to using the plant’s seed, berries, roots, leaves, bark, or flowers for medicine purposes. Herbalism has a long tradition of use outside of conventional medicine. It is becoming more mainstream as improvements in analysis and quality control along with advances in clinical research show the value of herbal medicines in the treating and preventing disease. Facts and findings
Archaeological evidence indicates that the use of medicinal plants needs at least to the Palaeolithic, approximately 600,000 yers ago. The documentation of herbs and their uses was a central part of more Western and Eastern medical scholarship through to the 1600s, and these works played an important role in the development of science of botany. In the early 19th century when chemical analysis first became available, scientists began to extract and modify the active ingredients from plants. Later chemists began making their own version of plant compounds and, over time the use of verbal medicines declined in favour of drugs. Almost one of fourth of pharmaceutical are derived from botanicals. There are many forms in which herbs can be administered, the most common of which is in the form of a liquid it is drunk by the patient, either a tisane or a plant extract. Whole herbal consumption is also practiced either fresh, in dried form or as a fresh juice. The main difference between Chinese medicine and Western medicine is that Chinese medicine seeks to treat the body as a whole, while Western medicine focuses on the main problem area. The differences go deeper still and cover the philosophy of medicine, preventative action, diagnosis and treatment. Neither one is wholly wrong: instead they complement one another. A crucial difference between Chinese medicine and Western medicine is that Western medicine focuses solely on the body as an organism. Chinese medicine, on the other hand, as with other Asian practices, includes the soul or spirit as an integral element of the body. Chinese ,therefore, treat the entire body in a holistic manner in order to sell one ailment. Ayurveda Is a whole medical system that is based on various theories about health and illness and on ways to prevent, manage, or treat health problems. In particular, it seems to me that Ayurvedic medicine does not treat symptoms like Western medicine does. The aim in Ayurveda is to integrate and balance the body, mind and spirit. This is believed to prevent illness and promote wellness. Many consumers believe that herbal medicines are safe because they are natural, herbal medicines and synthetic drugs interact, causing toxicity to the patient. Herbal remedies can also be dangerously contaminated and herbal medicines without establishing efficacy, may unknowingly be used to replace medicines that do have corroborated efficacy. Many herbs have shown positive results in vitro, animal model or small-scale clinical tests, while studies on some herbal treatments have found negative results. Anyway, members found herbs very effective for a weird range illness: 55% would recommend herbal medicines to friends.
    Conclusion
Herbal use can be helpful in some cases but it’s important to avoid interaction with other drugs and to consult the herbalist for a correct use of them.
    Recommendations
Some herbal medicines have needs some recommendation. A harmful effects on the body but is possible to find many benefits from herbs as well. The users of herbal medicines needs some recommendation. This kind of medicine must be used with great care and patients have to follow carefully herbalist advices. Is also important to make sure that the herbal remedy is the correct product for their disease. For a herbalist is good idea to make a remedy specially for their patients. At the hand is important that the patient does not believe all the claims that he reads on the packaging of the herbal product.

Microfluidic single cell analysis: from promise to practice
    Ve ronique Lecault1,2,3,5, Adam K White1,5, Anupam Singhal1,3,5 and

Methods for single-cell analysis are critical to revealing cell-tocell
variability in biological systems, especially in cases where
relevant minority cell populations can be obscured by
population-averaged measurements. However, to date single
cell studies have been limited by the cost and throughput
required to examine large numbers of cells and the difficulties
associated with analyzing small amounts of starting material.
Microfluidic approaches are well suited to resolving these
issues by providing increased senstitivity, economy of scale,
and automation. After many years of development microfluidic
systems are now finding traction in a variety of single-cell
analytics including gene expression measurements, protein
analysis, signaling response, and growth dynamics. With newly
developed tools now being applied in fields ranging from
human haplotyping and drug discovery to stem cell and cancer
research, the long-heralded promise of microfluidic single cell
analysis is now finally being realized.

    Introduction
Cells are the fundamental units of biological processes.
However, the vast majority of our understanding of bio-
chemistry and genetics has been gleaned through the bulk
analysis of large populations of cells, which are required to
obtain sufficient starting material for conventional analysis
methods. Interpretation of such data often implies the tacit
assumption that each cell in the population is similar. More
often than not this is false. Cellular heterogeneity is in fact a
general feature of biological systems and has been observed
across all levels of life, from single bacterial cells to human
tissues. Even cells with identical functions generally
respond asynchronously, making precise studies of kinetics
and dynamics of cell populations impossible. Moreover, in
many important fields, minority subpopulations of cells are
often the most relevant. For instance, in microbial geno-
mics it is frequently impossible to selectively isolate or
culture a particular microbial species, thus necessitating
the study of DNA shrapnel derived from a mixture of
organisms. Similarly, in stem cell science even the most
advanced isolation methods can only provide enriched
populations of stem cells. In the best case, murine hema-
topoietic stem cells, functional purities are generally below
50% [1], and in many other systems they are much lower.
Thus, bulk measurements of the molecular signatures of
these important cells are obscured by significant, and often
overwhelming, contamination from other cell types of
unknown state and relative abundance. This scenario is
paralleled in numerous fields of research including cancer,
    immunology and developmental biology. Understanding
the extent and importance of cellular heterogeneity is one
of the most vexing problems facing biological research.
The challenge of understanding cellular heterogeneity
has been a major thrust of technological development
over the past decade, resulting in an increasingly powerful
suite of instrumentation, protocols, and methods for analyzing
single cells at the level of DNA sequence, RNA
expression and protein abundance [24]. Flow cytometry
and cell sorting have been widely adopted as a cornerstone
of cellular phenotyping and purification, allowing
for high-throughput quantitative analysis of protein
expression and phosphorylation state in single cells [5
7]. Recent advances in coupling this technology with
metal labeling have now extended the analysis of fixed
cells to sensitive multiplexing of dozens of targets per run
[8]. At the same time, increasingly rapid and sensitive
    imaging instrumentation now allows high-throughput
single cell measurements of proteins and nucleic acids
with single molecule resolution [9], and the precise
tracking of cellular growth and responses over extended
periods [1013]. Sensitive PCR-based protocols for
measuring large panels of mRNA from single cells are
now well established and have been coupled to FACS
isolation and robotic assay assembly [14,15,1619]. At
the same time, the rise of high-throughput sequencing instrumentation [20] has now made single-cell genomics a
practical proposition [21,22] and increasingly focus has
turned to the development of appropriate protocols for
high-fidelity amplification of DNA and RNA from single
cells [2325]. Sequencing approaches have further been
coupled with virus-based molecular barcoding strategies
to dissect heterogeneity in cellular processes in vivo [26].
Despite this suite of available approaches we are still only
beginning to face the measurement challenges of cellular
heterogeneity. There is much work to be done, both in
enabling new modes of analysis, and in improving the
speed, throughput, and economy of those that exist.

One piece of conventional wisdom that has been passed on throughout the generation is that Friday 13th is unlucky. No one knows where this superstition came from, though it is attributed to the fact that on Friday 13th October 1306, King Philip of France arrested the Knights Templar and began torturing them.
The fear of the number thirteen is known as triskaidekaphobia and number thirteen is considered unlucky in many cultures. This superstition is seen in different context : In USA , many skyscapers don’t have a 13th floor and several airports don’t have a 13th gate. Hospitals and hotels regularly have no room number 13. In Italy, the number thirteen is omitted from the national lottery, while on streets in Florence the house between number 12 and 14 is given the number 12 1/2. In Japan, the unlucky number four is omitted from hotels, hospitals and apartament blocks.

    TESTO:

    TESTO:
